Study Group
Working in small groups: logic and practice

1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, 18:30-20:00 CET/CEST |  [ITA - ESP - ENG]

The gerund reminds us of the continuous and ongoing nature of group work. The study group explores the logic of the interventions, focusing on how they are thought and acted out in practice, rather than on abstract theories.

Based on psychoanalyst Graciela Jasiner's research on small group work, we propose the following objectives for the study group.

General aim:
to deepen the understanding of small group work by exploring the underlying logic, effective practices and challenges.

Specific objectives:
  • To analyse the concept of group coordination/facilitation: To reflect on the dynamic, unfinished and iterative nature of coordination and its relationship with concepts such as impossibility, conflict and uncertainty.
  • To explore the logic of intervention: To discuss how the coordinator's interventions can guide the production of 'group action' and 'singular trace', and how they relate to Borromean logic.
  • To identify challenges and strategies: Examine the challenges of coordinating small groups and discuss strategies for overcoming them while maintaining 'serenity' and wonder.
  • To apply theory to practice: Share personal experiences and case studies to illustrate how theoretical concepts are applied in real group coordination situations, and develop strategies for overcoming challenges that may arise.

Through this study group we intend not only to enrich our theoretical understanding of coordination, but also to develop practical tools to enhance our work in creating meaningful and transformative group spaces.

  1. We will be in contact via synchronous videoconference, where all participants can see and hear each other.

  2. Closed groups of max. 12 people at most, so that the dialogue and mutual knowledge can progress. It is therefore not possible to attend individual sessions.

  3. The study group cannot be attended in its entirety on a deferred basis, as it is expected that the participants will have an active presence and participatation.
